Accounting for remodelers

Lots of jobs, short schedules and homeowners who change their minds. We keep deposits, change orders and job costs straight, and show you whether your markup really covers your overhead.

What we watch for

Where the money is won or lost.

Deposits, change orders and overhead recovery on smaller jobs.

01

Deposits

Deposits and progress payments

Homeowner deposits are owed in work until it is done. We track them by job so cash in the bank is not mistaken for profit.

02

Change orders

Change orders that get paid

Every change is priced, approved and billed, and its costs are coded to the same job, so add-ons add margin.

03

Overhead

Overhead recovery

Small jobs carry the same office, vehicles and insurance as big ones. We work out your real overhead rate so your markup covers it.

04

Job costs

Job costing on short jobs

Even two-week jobs get a budget against actual, so you learn which kinds of work pay best.

05

Sales tax

Materials and sales tax

Remodelers often pay sales tax on materials as the end user, and the rules differ by state. We set up your books the way your states require.
