Accounting for site work and landscaping

Heavy equipment, fuel and seasonal crews decide your margins. We cost your equipment by the hour, plan big purchases around tax, and keep public-bid paperwork in order.

What we watch for

Where the money is won or lost.

Heavy equipment write-offs, equipment cost per hour and public bids.

01

Equipment

Equipment cost per hour

Ownership, fuel, repairs and insurance turned into an hourly rate for each machine, so bids and job costs carry the real cost.

02

Buy or lease

Buy, lease or rent

We model the cash and tax effect of each option before you commit to a machine.

03

Write-offs

Writing off equipment

Purchases are timed to the year you are having, using Section 179 or bonus depreciation, whichever leaves you better off this year and next.

04

Fuel

Fuel tax credits

Federal excise tax paid on fuel used off-highway in equipment can be claimed back. We make sure the claim is made.

05

Seasons

Seasonal crews and maintenance contracts

Recurring maintenance contracts and seasonal payroll are planned together, so slow months are covered.

Tax

Tax notes for 2026.

$2.56M

Section 179 limit, 2026

Equipment in the year you buy it

Section 179 allows up to $2,560,000 in 2026, reduced once purchases pass $4,090,000, and equipment acquired after January 19, 2025 can also qualify for 100% bonus depreciation. The better choice depends on this year's income, next year's and your state.

Form 4136

Credit for federal tax paid on fuels

Fuel used in equipment

Federal excise tax paid on fuel used off-highway in equipment can be claimed back as a credit on Form 4136.

$32M

Gross receipts test, 2026

Which contracts can skip percentage of completion

Contracts expected to finish within two years can use simpler methods than percentage of completion if your average annual gross receipts over the past three years are $32 million or less (2026). The method changes when profit is taxed, not whether it is.
